An excellent boot for the right foot. June 13, 2007 Bob Wood (Little Rock, AR USA) 12 out of 12 found this review helpful
I just bought a pair of these boots after looking around, reading reviews and then trying on five different brands. Here's what I discovered: as you might imagine, different companies create their shoes using different "lasts" or generic foot shapes. These differ quite a bit, which is somewhat surprising. So, I strongly recommend that you try on many different boots before you buy. For example, I've always bought Vasque boots in the past, because they fit my narrow (B-width) foot pretty well. This time, I tried on some Vasque boots, Montrails, Merrills, Lowas and Asolos. The Asolos fit my foot incredibly well right out of the box. They were/are the most comfortable boot I've ever owned. They are also, evidently, very durable. A friend who used to be a backpacking guide and now works in an outdoor outfitting store told me that she had other friends who had had this particular boot re-soled three times from heavy use and were continuing to use and enjoy them. So, the essence of my review is this: stick with boot companies that have a reputation for high quality, try on several brands of boots and different models of the same brand (I tried on some Cordura and nylon Asolos, too, but wanted a full-leather upper so I got the 520s) to see which brand's foot last mirrors your own foot shape best, and then spend a little more than you had planned to get a boot that will ultimately last longer and save you money, as a result.
great boots January 5, 2008 studlydudley (calgary, ab) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I love these boots. I have had them for two years and every time i put them on i wonder why i don't just use them as my every day shoes. They are so comfortable and they also look really good. These boots make hiking a thrill and they hold to the trail extremely well.
Quality of product May 3, 2009 Andrew Burke (Waynesville, NC) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This is the third pair of ASOLO boots I've bought. While the price is high, thr product is fantastic. I am an electrical contractor. I've used these boots every day when working. I also live in the mountains of North Carolina and take my canine dogs (as well)for walks every day. I am always in ASOLO boots when doing this. Below freezing or on roofs is August, these ASOLO boots are comfortable. Each pair has lasted well over three years in this environment.
Don't want to take them off December 10, 2009 Philip Washington (Abilene, Texas USA) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I love these boots. I usually wear Rockports or Keene sandles to work. I got these boots because I was outdoors a lot on weekends and needed a pair of waterproof hiking boots. Since I got them 2 weeks ago they are the most comfortable shoes I have. Now I look for an excuse to wear them to the office besides casual Friday. I have had hiking boots before, but never did I want to just want to wear them day to day and usually when I got home they were the first thing I would take off. The other night I was going to bed and realized that I hadn't taken my boots off yet. I can't even say that about my Rockports or Keen sandles.
The Gor-Tex lining must really make a difference, because usually my feet start feeling really hot wearing other shoes, but these so far haven't been a problem. I was really worried about this when I first bought them, but figured well it's only for weekends. Never thought I would want to wear these day to day.
I have worn these from sun up to sun down. The farthest I have hiked in them is six miles in one day, but I didn't even notice them, other than I felt comfortable and confident in their support.
You probably need to check whether Asolo is comfortable for you. Like others have said you need to check each brand out. Prior to this I had a pair of Columbia's, but they were not waterproof.
I'm actually thinking of getting another pair since where I'm recreating requires walking in mud and then walking on concrete and where I am they get upset if you track mud on the concrete and they really appreciate it if you use 2 pairs of shoes. The cost seems prohibitive though, but do I really want to buy another pair of shoes I'm not that happy with. Still thinking about it.
